FX Promotes Trio to Executive Vice President

FX Networks gave promotions to a trio of veteran programming execs on Friday, upping Gina Balian to exec VP of limited series, Nicole Clemens to exec VP of series development and Jonathan Frank to exec VP of current series.

All will report to Nick Grad and Eric Schrier. The presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions made the announcement.

“In expanding to a record 20 series, we have managed to field the strongest program line-up in FX Networks’ history and a great deal of the credit goes to Gina, Nicole and Jonathan,” said Grad and Schrier. “They are, without question, three of the best executives in the business. Their unwavering support of our talent fosters a fearless creative environment that allows artists to create their best work.”

Balian, who is known for shepherding high-profile projects like “Fargo” and “American Crime Story,” will continue to oversee the strategic development and production of original limited series for FX Networks. She is currently overseeing the Tom Hardy project “Taboo” and “Legion” from “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley, the latter of which marks FX’s first co-production with Marvel Television. She joined FX Networks in 2012.

Clemens will also continue to oversee the strategic development of new drama and comedy series for FX Networks. As senior VP of series development, she helped develop FX’s brand-defying dramas “The Strain” and “Tyrant”, as well as Kurt Sutter’s new drama series, “The Bastard Executioner.” She also worked on comedies “You’re the Worst,” “Man Seeking Woman,” “Married” and “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll,” in addition to overseeing the development of the upcoming comedy series “Baskets,” starring Zach Galifianakis, and “Atlanta,” created by and starring Donald Glover. She also joined FX Networks in 2012.

Frank joined FX in 2008 as VP of current programming and was promoted to senior VP in 2011. He oversees all facets of day-to-day production for the entire slate of FX Networks’ original programming, including the dramas “The Bastard Executioner,” “The Americans,” “Tyrant” and “The Strain” and the anthology series “American Horror Story.” In addition, he supervises the production of the FX Networks’ comedy series like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Archer” and “Louie,” as well as the upcoming “Better Things” and “Atlanta.” Frank is also is the day-to-day executive overseeing the Tig Notaro pilot produced by FX Productions for Amazon.
