Marvels Spider-Man 2 Ending Teases New Characters

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot details through the ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 focuses on Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they fight off a litany of villains throughout the Spider-Man universe. As the final act concludes, character arcs end and new ones open. There are also teases that hint at the introduction of new characters, but the jury’s still out on whether they’ll be included in future DLC or in the next Spider-Man game from Insomniac.

Green Goblin

After taking down Venom, aka Harry Osborne, Miles manages to briefly resuscitate him with his bioelectric powers. However, Harry then falls into a coma. As Norman Osborne is sad and frustrated over his son’s condition, he tells his assistants to prepare the G-Serum. In the comics, Norman is known as the Green Goblin, and given the name of the serum, it’s definitely possible that Spider-Man’s greatest nemesis will make an appearance.

The symbiote is what saved Harry initially, so it’s unclear if Norman will use it on himself or Harry. In the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie, Harry was the Green Goblin while Sam Raimi’s version of Spider-Man had Norman as the villain—either way is plausible.

Additionally, Norman visits the 2018 game’s antagonist, Otto Ocatvius, also known as Doctor Octopus, in prison. Norman asks Otto who Spider-Man’s secret identity is but he doesn’t quite give it up. Otto mentions that he’s writing “the final chapter” in a little book he’s holding, which hints that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 could possibly be the end of Insomniac’s version of the Spider-Man universe.

Silk

Rio Morales tells Miles that she’s been putting herself out into the dating world after his father passed away in the first game. Eventually, she mentions that she’s been seeing someone she really likes. It’s not until the end of the game that the mystery man is revealed.

His name is Albert Moon, and he introduces his daughter, Cindy, to both Rio and Miles. Cindy Moon is the woman behind Silk, who was introduced in 2014. During the cutscene, we only get to see the back of Cindy’s head, so we currently don’t know what she looks like.

At the end of the game, Peter Parker is seemingly retiring from fighting crime, and so it’s definitely possible that Silk will join Miles in defending New York. We also don’t know if Cindy has her own spider powers yet, if she’ll receive them in an upcoming DLC that features her, or in the next game.

Carnage

As part of Spider-Man 2’s many sidequests, “The Flame” series has Peter helping out Wraith, also known as Yuri Watanabe, as she investigates a cult called The Flame.

At the end of the missions, we learn that the cult’s leader is Cletus Cassidy, who is known as Carnage in the comics. During the last mission, Peter gets pinned down by a large vehicle as Cletus steals a red symbiote. His final words before leaving Peter for dead are, “And when the Crimson Hour rolls over this earth, it shall bring truth, judgment, and carnage.”

Wraith chooses to save Peter from a fiery death rather than immediately chase down Cletus, which allows the villain to escape and live another day. Afterwards, Yuri says that she’ll try to track down Cletus again by checking his old aliases, but that process could take years. This hints that Carnage could possibly make an appearance down the line.

Chameleon

As part of the “Unidentified Targets’ chain of side quests, players will stumble across Dmitiri Smerdyakov’s apartment, whose villain name is The Chameleon. Not only that, but we also learn that he and Kraven the Hunter are brothers.

In the apartment are The Chameleon’s own hunting trophies, including one of Peter’s old masks. Eventually, poison gas starts filling the apartment and Spider-Man escapes. As he swings off into the distance, a man can be seen keeping tabs on him. He says, “Don’t worry, brother. I will do what you could not,” hinting that The Chameleon could make a more substantial appearance later on.

Miguel (Across the Spider-Verse)

This one might simply be a cameo and won’t develop into anything more in the future, but it’s still worth noting. After collecting all of the Spider-Bots in New York, there’s a special event that features Delilah, a bartender who’s speaking to Spider-Man through a wormhole.

As Delilah literally steals every single Spider-Bot away from Miles, she mentions Miguel, who fans know as the primary antagonist in the Across the Spider-Verse movie. She says, “And if Miguel comes looking for these, tell him ‘finders keepers.’”

Spider-Man has no clue who Miguel is, and when asking Delilah, she simply laughs in his face and closes the wormhole.

It’s unclear if Insomniac wants to incorporate more multiverse elements into its Spider-Man games, but they can certainly do so with Miguel. However, the studio can choose to keep this moment as a simple cameo and nothing more. We’ll see in a few years!
