From adding an array of new benefits, elevating the intro bonus, and increasing the annual fee to $695, Amex has been doing a lot of tinkering with The Platinum Card® from American Express in the past year.
And now there's yet another change to this iconic card. Amex has rolled out two new card designs, and they're available to new and existing cardholders in addition to the classic card style.
The new designs were created by renowned artists, Julie Mehretu and Kehinde Wiley, as part of Amex's Art x Platinum collaboration. Both artists previously participated in The Studio Museum in Harlem's prestigious Artist-in-Residence program, to which American Express recently committed $1 million in sponsorship.
Here's how to get your hands on one of the new Amex Platinum designs.
We're focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won't be worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

Both of the new designs are available to new and existing cardholders as of January 20, 2022. If you already have the Amex Platinum Card, you can change to the new card art by calling the number on the back of your card or signing into your online Amex account. Your card number won't change, and any additional Platinum cardholders on your account will have the option to switch to a different design as well.
New cardholders can select one of the new designs when they apply for the card — or they can choose the traditional style if they prefer.
The Platinum x Kehinde Wiley design features a botanical theme, while the Platinum x Julie Mehretu card is more abstract. Both designs are bold, to be sure — but if you're looking to add a bit of flair to your wallet, they're certainly a unique option.
How to get a new Amex Platinum design
If you're a new cardholder, you'll have the option to choose between the classic card art or one of the new designs when you open the card.
For existing cardholders, it's easy to order a new card. Head to your online Amex Platinum account and navigate to the "Account Services" menu, then select "Replace a Card." You'll be prompted to select the card you want to replace and you'll need to choose the reason why you're replacing the card — click on "I want to change my card's design."
You'll then have the opportunity to select a new design. Clicking each option gives you a larger view of what the card will look like.
Once you've made your selection and hit "Continue," you'll land on a final order screen confirming your address and estimated delivery date. In this case, the delivery date is about a week out from when I ordered.
Your card number won't change, and you can continue using your existing Amex Platinum Card until the new one arrives.
Other new Amex Platinum benefits
In addition to the new card art, Amex has added a slew of other benefits to the Amex Platinum Card in recent months, including:
- Up to $200 per calendar year in credits toward prepaid hotel bookings made with Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts or the Hotel Collection (minimum two-night stay)
- Up to $189 per year in credit toward CLEAR® Plus membership**
- Up to $300 annual credits to Equinox**
- $300 statement credit when you use your card to buy a SoulCycle at-home bike
- Up to $240 in annual digital entertainment credits (divided into monthly increments of up to $20)**
- Up to $155 in annual statement credits toward Walmart+ membership (divided into monthly increments of $12.95)**
These new perks are in addition to other lucrative card benefits, which include up to a $200 annual airline fee credit**, more airport lounge access options than any other card, complimentary elite status with Hilton and Marriott**, and up to $200 in Uber credits** every year.
Cardholders also receive up to $100 in Saks credits** every year (broken up as up to $50 semi-annually), and Amex Offers** for cash back or bonus points when you shop with specific retailers.
The Amex Platinum Card is currently offering an elevated welcome bonus of 80,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $8,000 on purchases on your new card in your first six months of card membership.
Regardless of the card art you choose, you'll get the same range of benefits. Amex hasn't announced an end date for the new designs, so if one of these styles ends up growing on you, you'll still have the option to switch down the road.
